As the lead for developing the master plan for the Seattle Housing Authority's (SHA) Yesler Terrace affordable housing development, CollinsWoerman is also in the process of creating strategies to make the centrally-located, 38-acre site a showcase sustainable community. Working with SHA and with support from the City of Seattle, Collins Woerman is assessing the feasibility of district infrastructure options at Yesler Terrace. Rigorous analysis of the potential for conservation savings for all infrastructure systems including energy, water, and solid waste are underway. Such an analysis is designed to quantify the potential savings that will likely be captured through the use of sustainable development best practices. This study will be developed in stages: concepts generated through a design charrette will undergo rigorous analysis for their conservation savings, cost effectiveness, and other metrics to determine their value. Results of the study will guide public decision-making about infrastructure funding, and client choices related to the final Master Plan.
