Sustainable Development

cities of the future

Singapore Competition

We are global leaders in developing concepts for cities faced with dramatic challenges that will require new tools for sustainability. We collaborate with cities, utilities, and international organizations to develop solutions that integrate water, energy and livability. We convene leaders and decision-makers to develop sustainability policies and initiatives based on consensus, market transformation, and measurable outcomes.

Sustainable Development Principal Steve Moddemeyer is working with the Turkish Ministry of the Environment on behalf of the International Water Association (IWA) to implement the IWA's Cities of the Future Program with three partner cities: Istanbul, Kayseri, and Trabzon.  The three-year program links top experts around the world with Turkish experts to create a model of an integrated infrastructure investment.  The result of the program will identify new, cross-disciplinary approaches to planning cities and infrastructure that minimize energy, water, and resource use that reflect the growing realities of a changing global context.

Overall the program is intended to:

  1. Learn by doing by developing Cities of the Future plans for these three cities,
  2. Work on a topical basis linking Turkish academics with international experts to develop a supporting research program (which will be further supported by the Ministry) and
  3. Write professional guidance on how to develop Cities of the Future in Turkey as a lasting legacy of this project.

Steve’s work with the IWA has enabled CollinsWoerman to be a key player in helping cities to envision, develop and implement sustainable infrastructure worldwide.
